WHY DO WE FEED YOUR TROUT WITH INSECT?
INSECT WILL ALLOW US TO SUSTAINABLY EAT FARMED FISH... WHILE PRESERVING OUR OCEANS
Over half
of the fish consumed worldwide comes from aquaculture (FAO)
Aquaculture can enable to reduce pressure on wild fish stocks.

INSECTS OFFER A SOLUTION !
Insects can participate to sustainably and naturally feeding of farmed fish.
We’ll explain why !
INSECT CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE GROWTH OF A SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE FOR
QUALITY FISH
TODAY AND IN THE FUTURE
Aquaculture is supported by the FAO
(Food and agriculture United Nations organization) to ensure food security. Aquaculture is also recognized by the European Commission as one of the 5 pillars of
Blue Growth which can create added value and durable jobs.

Aquaculture will cover
more than
60%
of global needs by
2030
(FAO)
Sustainable fisheries and sustainable aquaculture
are complementary and inseparable to
protect wild fish stocks.

Mr. Goodfish
recommends insect-fed fish as it contributes to the growth of a sustainable aquaculture.
INSECTS
ON THE MENU... OF TROUT !
In the wild, trout feed partly on insects. So it's a return to the roots for trout, excellent fly gulpers!

The term "insect-fed fish” exclusively applies to aquaculture fish that respect the following criteria:
- • The fish were fed with a feed where at least 50% of fishmeal was replaced by insect meal (e.g.: a 8% total inclusion rate in the feed for trout in the Auchan chain
- • The fish have at least doubled in weight during the period when they were fed with an insect protein based feed

In addition to providing all the benefits specific to fish, including essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals, fish from aquaculture also has the advantage of containing many polyunsaturated
fatty acids (Omega 3)
(Study with 60 million consumers).

THE BREEDING OF OUR
HERMETIA ILLUCENS FLY
: ON A SHORT
LOOP
CIRCULAR
MODEL
We are particularly proud of our short loop insect production model.
A model that up-cycles agricultural co-products in a circular and zero waste approach.

A LOCAL AND FRENCH PRODUCTION
Your Auchan trout fed with insects come from an entirely French production. Traceability is ensured throughout the production chain, and our local model helps to limit the negative environmental impacts associated with transportation.

France is one of the largest trout producers in Europe and its fish farmers are pioneers in sustainable aquaculture

Where can I find insect-fed fish ?
Auchan, partner from the first hour of the initiative, is gradually introducing trout fed with insects in different stores around France as production increases. Insect fed trout can be identified by an "insect fed fish" logo
